These are the upcoming ICE SUVs that will shake up the Indian automotive market
The compact IC-engined SUV segment is set to see significant action in the coming years with several exciting models on the horizon. Here’s a look at some of the upcoming ICE SUVs that are launching in the Indian automotive market in 2024.
1. Kia Sonet Facelift
The Kia Sonet facelift is scheduled for an early 2024 release with a multitude of updates inside and out. Expect a premium overhaul in terms of features but the existing petrol and diesel engine options are likely to be retained.
2. Toyota Taisor
Toyota is bringing the Urban Cruiser Taisor to market in the first half of next year. Essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it will be positioned above the Glanza premium hatchback. The Taisor will feature the 1.2L NA petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines found in its donor vehicle.
3. Next-Gen Hyundai Venue
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is expected to launch the second-gen Venue in India by the mid-2020s. While the current engine lineup may be retained, substantial updates are anticipated both inside and out. The next-gen Venue will be produced at the recently acquired Talegaon plant and is internally codenamed Q2Xi.
4. Skoda & VW Compact SUVs
There are speculations that Skoda and Volkswagen are jointly developing a sub-four-metre SUV for the Indian market. This new offering is aimed at competing with popular models like the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, and Nissan Magnite. Expected to launch in late 2024 or early 2025, this SUV will share the heavily localized MQB A0 IN platform. It is likely to be powered by a 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
