2024 Toyota Hilux MHEV Revealed - New Toyota Fortuner Coming?!

Toyota has introduced a mild-hybrid version of the Hilux in the European market, just a few months after it began testing prototypes in Africa.

Called the Hilux MHEV, Toyota will build this iteration in Thailand for the European market.

In pursuit of better fuel economy and lower emissions, the 2.8-litre diesel engine on the Hilux gets a 48V mild-hybrid setup replete with an electric motor generator and a few other components.

Toyota says that the components for the mild-hybrid setup have been strategically placed, which allows for a water wading depth of 700mm.

The brand has also claimed that this system will provide enhanced torque assist, smoother start/stop functions, regenerative braking and up to 10 percent better fuel efficiency compared to diesel-only powertrains.

Toyota is expected to introduce this tech in India sometime next year, it remains to be seen which among these two will get it first.
