These are the top 5 upcoming EVs under Rs 15 lakh in India next year
In the lineup of upcoming electric vehicles priced under Rs. 15 lakh, several prominent automakers are set to make their mark, including Hyundai, Tata, Kia, Skoda, VW, and MG. The electric vehicle segment will take significant growth in 2025 with manufacturers eager to introduce new models to capture a larger market share. In this article, we’ll talk about the most anticipated EVs under Rs. 15 lakh arriving in the coming years.
1. MG Compact Electric SUV
MG Motor is building on the success of its Comet small electric vehicle. The automaker plans to launch a compact SUV based on the same platform as the Comet EV. It is expected to hit the market in 2025 and will compete directly with popular models like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. The MG electric car will be available with an electric powertrain further expanding MG’s electric vehicle lineup.
2. Tata Punch EV
Tata Motors is gearing up to launch an electric version of its popular Punch model in the coming months. This EV variant has been spotted numerous times undergoing testing on public roads. The Tata Punch EV will feature a charging port on the fender and is expected to utilize Tata’s Ziptron technology, similar to the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The Punch EV will be positioned above the Tiago EV and will be a unique offering in its segment until the arrival of the Hyundai Exter EV.
3. Hyundai Exter EV
Recent spy images suggest that Hyundai is developing an electric version of the Exter, a compact SUV. As the ICE Exter competes directly with the Tata Punch it makes sense for their electric counterparts to vie against each other as well. This electric variant will make its debut in a year or two. Moreover, the Creta EV has also been spotted during testing, which hints at Hyundai’s continued foray into electric mobility.
4. Kia AY EV
Speculations point to the launch of a compact SUV with the internal codename “Kia AY” in 2025 or 2026. This model will be offered in both ICE and EV configurations. The upcoming Kia EV will be positioned above the Sonet and below the Seltos. The upcoming Kia AY EV will feature a rugged exterior but is unlikely to have a 4WD system available at least in its ICE version.
5. Skoda & Volkswagen Low Cost EV
Skoda is reportedly working on a sub-four-metre SUV for the Indian market and this will be followed by the introduction of an affordable electric vehicle in the price range of Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh. While details are yet to be confirmed, it’s expected that this electric vehicle will be an SUV. And will prioritize high local manufacturing. Volkswagen is likely to offer a similar model through badge engineering.
